The Pharaoh Hound is often associated with ancient Egypt due to its striking resemblance to the dogs depicted in ancient Egyptian art and hieroglyphs. Known locally as the “Kelb tal-Fenek,” which translates to “rabbit dog,” the breed was used primarily for hunting rabbits in the rugged Maltese terrain.
