Otocinclus size

Otocinclus catfish, also known as “otos,” are small freshwater fish, making them ideal for nano and planted aquariums. On average, Otocinclus grow to a size of 1.5 to 2 inches (around 4 to 5 centimeters) in length. Their compact size allows them to navigate easily through dense plant growth and tight spaces in the aquarium, grazing on algae without disturbing plants or other fish. Despite their small size, Otocinclus are highly effective algae eaters and can help maintain a clean and balanced tank environment.

Their small stature also means that they are suitable for a variety of tank sizes, though it is important to house them in groups of at least six to keep them happy and healthy. Even in smaller tanks, Otocinclus do well as long as the water quality is carefully maintained and the tank is not overcrowded. While their size makes them non-threatening to other tank inhabitants, it also makes them more vulnerable to larger, aggressive fish. Therefore, when selecting tank mates for Otocinclus, it’s crucial to choose peaceful, small fish that won’t view them as prey. With proper care, Otocinclus can thrive in both small and large aquariums, adding both function and charm to any setup.
