Chinese Hamster housing

Chinese hamsters, known for their small size and active nature, require a well-planned living environment to thrive. A proper cage for a Chinese hamster should be spacious, providing enough room for them to run and explore. A minimum cage size of 80×50 cm is recommended, with a solid floor rather than wire, which can hurt their delicate feet. Multilevel cages are ideal as they offer more vertical space for climbing and activities.

In addition to size, the cage should be equipped with hiding spots, tunnels, and exercise wheels, as Chinese hamsters are very energetic and need physical stimulation. Providing a deep layer of bedding, like aspen or paper-based material, allows them to dig and burrow, which is a natural behavior. Make sure to include chew toys, as their teeth grow continuously. Lastly, place the cage in a quiet area, away from direct sunlight and drafts, to ensure your hamster feels safe and comfortable. Regular cleaning of the cage is essential to prevent odors and maintain a healthy living space.
