Aquarium Neon Tetra

The Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi) is one of the most popular and widely recognized species in the aquarium hobby. Known for its striking blue and red coloration, this small, peaceful fish originates from the warm, slow-moving waters of the Amazon Basin in South America. Neon Tetras are a schooling species, meaning they thrive in groups, and it is recommended to keep at least six of them together in an aquarium. This not only enhances their vibrant colors but also reduces stress, as they feel more secure in numbers.

Caring for Neon Tetras is relatively easy, making them an excellent choice for beginners. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0-7.0) with a temperature range between 70°F and 81°F (21°C-27°C). A well-planted aquarium with dim lighting mimics their natural habitat and helps them feel at ease. Feeding Neon Tetras is straightforward; they are omnivores and will readily accept high-quality flake food, micro-pellets, and occasionally live or frozen food like brine shrimp or daphnia. With proper care, these colorful fish can live up to five years, adding beauty and tranquility to any home aquarium.
